Many sites and online services - including Grovo - require users to create a password to secure their accounts.

This lesson will walk you though how to create and manage your online passwords.

It's important that you create strong passwords to protect your accounts.

Weak passwords - (or) passwords that are too short, or include easy-to-guess factors like your name or birthday - leave you and your account vulnerable to unauthorized access.

Strong passwords usually have a few things in common: they're at least eight characters long, and feature upper- and lower-case letters, numbers and symbols.

Combining these elements creates a password that will be much harder to guess.

You can see those elements outlined here on a website called (the) Password Meter.

The Password Meter lets you enter sample passwords and will explain why they're strong or weak.

Other sites will generate a secure password for you.

The strong password generator allows you to choose the number of characters for your password, and select whether or not the password should include symbols.

Once you've set your preferences, hit Generate Password and your password automatically displays below.

The site even provides tips to help you remember your password.

For extra security, you can use different passwords for each of your online accounts.

There are different sites for storing your passwords but the easiest way is to write them down and hide them in your house or put them in the middle of a document on your computer.

Once you've set your passwords, you might want to change them every few months.

Doing so helps keep your accounts even more secure.
