Instead of delivering emails one-by-one, Gmail groups them into threads, which display messages in a conversation format.

Responses to an email you sent will be displayed with the most recent responders and the number of responses in parentheses.

If you'd rather see emails displayed on their own, you can turn off the feature in just a few clicks.

Select the gear icon in the upper right of your inbox, then choose "Settings." Next to the "Conversation View" header, select the "off" radio button and "Save Changes" to display each individual email separately in your inbox.
